[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]When it comes to your mouth and mouth pain, there probably isn’t anything as annoying as the canker sore, or “mouth pimple”. You can see it. You can touch it and it’s painful. So what is this ailment all about?
While there is no exact cause for the canker sore, stress or tissue injury is many times thought to be the culprit. In addition, certain foods including fruits and veggies that are citrus or acidic can be the cause. Dental appliances, such as braces or ill-fit dentures could also be the trigger.
Many people feel canker sores are the same as cold sores. That is just a myth. In reality, cold sores are caused by a virus and are contagious. Canker sores are not.
If you feel a small sore inside your mouth or on your tongue you may have a canker sore. They are usually visible, round, white or gray in color and have a red edge or border.
Luckily pain from a canker sore is just short term and lessens considerably as the days go by. Treatment usually isn’t needed, but if the sore stays extremely painful your dentist may prescribe a mouth rinse or ointment that can help alleviate the pain.
Although there isn’t a way to prevent or cure canker sores, you maybe able to reduce their frequency by:
- Avoiding foods that irritate the mouth
- Less gum chewing in vulnerable areas of the mouth
- Brushing and flossing more often.
If your canker sores start to spread or get bigger, contact Fresh Dental Smiles immediately as they will be able to prescribe a stronger treatment.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]I am text block.
