[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]You have seen it on ex-football player and TV host Michael Strahan and the late daughter of Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina. What though causes gap teeth and that noticeable difference in smile?
Gap teeth are one of the most common cosmetic dental issues in today’s society and there are a variety of reasons why it is caused. From thumb sucking to gum disease and everything “in-between”! In addition a gap tooth could be created if the teeth are too small in proportion to the jawbone, or simply because teeth are missing.
So what are your options for closing the “gap”? Here are a few options:
- Teeth-Effect Bands. These rubber bands slip over your teeth at night, causing them to push closer together. This treatment though can potentially be painful and could do damage to other straight teeth.
- Cosmetic Dentistry. Tooth gaps also can potentially be fixed cosmetically through the use of dental veneers or bonding’s. With this option your dentist applies a tooth-colored resin to both teeth filling in the gap. This is a much more expensive proposition, compared to the rubber bands option.
- Braces and Retainers. Partial braces and/or retainers are another method that could be used to correct a tooth gap. This method may or may not be covered by insurance and could also involve an oral surgeon.
While your Fresh Dental Smiles dentist and hygienist can offer a variety of solutions, it is ultimately the patient’s decision on how and if they want to fix the gap. For some it may be a fashion statement and no fixing is needed at all.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
