[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]For most people, you head to the dentist to get a cleaning or a problem fixed. You don’t though usually go in finding out you have cancer.
Oral cancer affects the tongue and other parts of the mouth and is usually found in those who smoke and in its late stages because it is easy to overlook as they aren’t painful or very noticeable to a person when brushing teeth or when using their mouth in a different situation.
Dentists including those at Fresh Dental Smiles use special instruments that look much closer into patient’s mouths. They have the ability to detect these spots that have the potential to lead to cancerous tumors in the mouth.
More than 48,000 people in the U.S will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year and about 9,000 will die from it.
If detected early, there are procedures and operations that hopefully can help cure the problem.
Next time you visit your dentist make sure to ask them to take an extra careful look. It can potentially help save your life!
